THE 8thANNUAL PLANET PALMERSTON COMMUNITY YARD SALE RETURNS!
Palmerston Blvd, from College Street to Bloor Street
- A portion of event proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area-

Toronto, ON – On June 18th, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the residents of Palmerston Blvd. will host their 8th annual PLANET PALMERSTON: a community yard sale with a portion of proceeds going to Habitat For Humanity Greater Toronto Area.

Now a staple event in the community, this year’s event aims to build on the success of past years when Palmerston Boulevard came alive with yard sales, bake sales, lemonade stands, raffles, plant sales, bbq’s, live music and a strong sense of community. To date, the event has raised over $18,000 for Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area.

“The intention of the day is to build community on our own street, to invite others to celebrate with us and together, raise money and awareness for charities working to improve our community at large,” says one of the event’s organizers Mackenzie Muldoon; “everybody wins!”

The way the day works is that Palmerston Blvd. residents are invited to hold sales of their own, and either pledge a percentage of their sales to the charity, or make a minimum donation. ‘Habitat Headquarters’ is a giant sale, this year held at a NEW address, 400 Palmerston Blvd (at the corner of Ulster St.), where anyone and everyone is invited to donate goods, and 100% of the proceeds from this sale will go to the charity. This year PARA (the Palmerston Area Residence Association) is also getting involved, and inviting any local residents to participate by renting a table space on Palmerston Blvd., with proceeds of the rentals going to charity.

The Numbers Are In...

The 3rd annual Planet Palmerston was another great success raising over $2600 for Habitat for Humanity Toronto - but we didn't stop there!

This year over $400 was also raised for and by the Nazareth House, a supportive non-denominational community that has been providing a safe haven to women at risk and their infants for over 25 years right here on Palmerston Blvd.

Our first group to participate South of College raised awareness and collected signatures for a petition regarding the neglected green space on Palmerston just south of Woodlot and we welcomed PARA into the event, who helped with the organization and whose sale contributed both to Habitat and raised money for PARA's future causes.

Which means that overall, despite our postponement to our Sunday raindate (for a day without rain!!!) and thus a few fewer sales on the street in total, we still managed top the overall dollars raised for charity at last year's event. Well done Palmerston!!!

Thanks to all those who participated by either having a sale, helping out, donating goods and
bake sale items, collecting raffle prizes and all those who came out and shopped!

A special thanks to the following local businesses who donated prizes to our raffle: Grateful Head, The Black Hoof, Red Pegasus,
Soundscapes, Churrasqueira Do Sardinha, TVO, Set Me Free, Think Pink Spa, Pet Uno, The Communal Mule, Ella's Uncle Café, The Green Grind, Freshslice Pizza and to METRO for supporting our charity BBQ.

We look forward to seeing you next year at our 4th annual event and hopefully out on Palmerston before that!

RAIN DATE IS ON!!!

So the forecast for tomorrow, according to the weather network, is 100% P.O.P and calling for Thunder showers in the AM so we are going to postpone to Sunday, June 12, when they are calling for sunny skies and a lovely temperature of 20°C - Hope to see you Sunday!!!

The 3RD ANNUAL PLANET PALMERSTON is Saturday June 11 2011!

PLANET PALMERSTON
A Community Yard Sale

Palmerston Blvd, north of College St., south of Bloor St.

- A portion of event proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity Toronto and other local charities -

The residents of Palmerston Blvd. are planning their third annual PLANET PALMERSTON: a community yard sale with a portion of proceeds going to Habitat For Humanity Toronto and other local charities.

They will be building on the success of last year’s event when Palmerston Blvd. hosted 25 sales, several combining multiple homes, and many more homes contributed to the sale at ‘Habitat Headquarters’ (351 Palmerston Blvd.) where 100% of proceeds went to Habitat for Humanity Toronto. All together the event which hosts not only yard sales, but bake sales, lemonade stands, a raffle, face painting and live music has now raised over $5000 for the Habitat for Humanity Toronto.

New this year PARA (The Palmerston Area Residence Association) is coming on board to help with organizing the event.  They hope to grow it this year by welcoming neighbours from nearby streets to ‘rent out’ yard space from Palmerston homes at a small fee that will go directly to the Habitat as well as raise funds for PARA’s other community projects.

Also joining this year’s event is a group who have been working on reclaiming a green space just south of the Woodlot restaurant will be hosting a bake sale on Palmerston just south of College. And the Nazareth House Inc, a supportive non-denominational community that has been providing a safe haven to women at risk and their infants for over 25 years, will also be participating in the day with their own charitable yard sale.

“The intention of the day is to build community on our own street, to invite others to celebrate with us and together, raise money and awareness for charities working to improve our community at large,” says one of the event’s organizers Mackenzie Muldoon; “everybody wins!”

Palmerston residents who are interested in participating either by holding a sale or by loaning out their yard for the day are encouraged to contact James Choy at planetpalmerston@gmail.com and anyone wishing to rent a space for a sale, should do the same.

Many ways to participate!

Hold a sale of your own! If you are a Blvd resident we would love you to participate by hosting your own sale. We ask that everyone who has a sale on the street that day and benefits from the promotional work and organization gone into the day, make a minimum donation of $25 (you will receive a tax receipt)  to Habitat for Humanity Toronto – or pledge a % of your day.  Please let us know if you are having a sale by registering at planetpalmerston@gmail.com.  Not a Palmerston Resident? Not a problem - contact James at jc@look.ca about renting a spot on the street for $25 donation which goes to Habitat for Humanity Toronto.

Donate goods to the “Habitat Headquarters” at 351 Palmerston Blvd where 100% of sales will go to Habitat for Humanity Toronto and any left over goods will be donated to charity. You can drop off goods on the porch at 351 Palmerston Blvd anytime after Wednesday June 8th and baked goods the morning of the sale, Saturday June 11th.

• Donate raffle items or approach your favourite local business for a donation...gift certificates, a bottle of wine, free yoga sessions...all will fetch a good price at our raffle at Habitat Headquarters, and garner some free publicity for your business too!

Volunteer your time helping out at the ‘Habitat Headquarters” on June 11th , with the Yard sale, bake sale, lemonade stand, bbq, raffle or perhaps add some live music to the day (if you are musically inclined ;0).  Drop in and lend a hand.

• Loan your yard on Palmerston Blvd to someone who would like to host a sale.

Get out on the street and shop! On June 11th, meet your neighbours, grab a great deal, support a great cause and be a part of our community.

The 2nd Annual Planet Palmerston was another roaring success!

A few weeks back the team organizing the event set out to repeat the success of last year's inaugural Planet Palmerston and build on it, and we did just that. Last year's 23 sales raised $2,132.00. This year we had 25 sales on the street and raised just over $3000.00 for Habitat For Humanity Toronto ($3001.20 to be exact)! $825.50 was donated by sales along Palmerston, from College to Bloor, and the remainder was raised by the awesome team efforts of contributors to the "Habitat Headquarters" at 351 Palmerston.

Thanks go out to Kalendar Restaurant, Lily of the Valley, Sidecar Restaurant, The Big Chill Ice Cream Parlor and Metro Grocery for their contributions to the day.

And a special thanks go out to all who participating by having sales, donating goods, baking, facepainting, playing music, making lemonade, sourcing raffle prizes, helping out at headquarters, BBQ'ing, inviting friend, spreading the word or just getting out there and shopping!

If you haven't already, please join our FACEBOOK page (www.facbook.com/planetpalmerston) to stay in the loop when next year's event comes around, to check out some photos from this year and if you have any photos of your own, please upload them there.

Thanks to all who helped make the day a success!
